Sabeomnim Alex holds a 4th degree black belt (4 Dan) in Hapkido and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). He started his martial arts journey when he was 5 years old and continued until this day.
Since achieving his black belt in the early 2000’s, Alex has continued his love of Hapkido but also expanded his martial arts skills and knowledge by taking on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). Alex enjoys both the self-defence and competition aspects of BJJ and the fact that Hapkido and BJJ compliment each other.
Alex was one of the original instructors at the Victorian Hapkido Academy (VHA) (founded by Sabeomnim Greg Walters and Sabeomnim Scott Walters in 2001) and trained/instructed with both Sabeomnim Greg and Sabeomnim Scott for several years before branching out to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ).
Alex holds a 4 Dan black belt with the Global Hapkido Association (GHA) but is also accredited with other Hapkido organisations, such as the International Hapkido Federation, Moo Moo Kwan Hapkido Federation and the Korea Hapkido Federation. He is also an accredited Floro Fighting System (FFS) Instructor under Guru Raymond Floro. FFS is a realistic and simplified method of dealing with both armed and unarmed confrontations. It specialises in awareness and defence of assaults involving edged-weapons.
